Omega sets its clocks to Olympic time

Postponed by a year due to the pandemic, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021. The perfect occasion for Omega - the official Olympic timekeeper - to present the extraordinary Seamaster in the Olympic colours.

Back in 2019, before the world stood sill, Omega launched two Seamaster limited editions in 2,020 (a telling number!) models: the Aqua Terra and the Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020. The idea was to start the Olympic year, as per tradition, with these special models that always prove popular with collectors. However, 2020 didn't turn out to be an Olympic year. Which meant that watch aficionados didn't rush to get their hands on these limited series. But the timer has been reset for summer 2021, and the Games will finally take place from 23 July. Omega was certainly not going to miss the occasion, as the event's official timekeeper since 1932, and is now presenting the Seamaster Diver 300M Tokyo 2020.

As you may have noticed, the organisers of the world's greatest sporting event have decided to retain its original name: the Summer Games of the XXXII Olympiad are still named Tokyo 2020, even though they'll be held in 2021.

The Seamaster Diver 300M has been specially released for the occasion and features a classic 42 mm steel case mounted with a blue ceramic bezel and a white enamel diving scale. The polished white ceramic dial boasts a laser-engraved wave motif as a reminder that this diver watch is water resistant up to 300 metres. Fans will have also noted the date window located at 6 o'clock, an usual placement for a Seamaster.

But the best part can be found on the back of the case: a sapphire crystal caseback reveals the Omega 8800 movement and is adorned with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic logo. Only the wearer knows this Seamaster watch is like no other. The sort of discretion we appreciate here at SoBARNES.

It is priced at €5,500, the usual rate for the range.
